PRACTICE INFORMATION
APPOINTMENTS
Our standard appointments are 15 minutes long. If more time is required please book a longer appointment. The practice sets aside a number of appointments each day for urgent problems, and online appointments are available from midnight with additional telephone appointments opening at 8am.
If you are unable to secure an appointment for your usual doctor, you may request to be added to their cancellation list.
You are welcome to call the surgery prior to your appointment to see how the doctor may be running. Reception staff can provide only an estimate on wait times, if the doctor feels a patient requires more time to provide the best care, they may run over the allocated appointment time.
Where possible we try to accommodate each patient’s request, we understand that patients like to see their regular doctor however at times it is not always possible. We will endeavour to fit you in an appointment with another doctor if your preferred doctor is not available, all doctors at Wakefield Gardens Surgery will strive to assist you with your medical needs.
All patients require separate appointments. Only one patient can be seen per appointment.
CANCELLATIONS
Please advise us as soon as possible if you cannot keep your appointment. It is our practice policy that at least 4 hours’ notice is provided if you are unable to complete your appointment. A fee of 50% of the consultation cost may be charged to your account.
TELEPHONE AND TELEHEALTH APPOINTMENTS
We offer Telephone and Telehealth (Video) consultations, which are our preferred way of seeing patients with respiratory symptoms.
Please note, patients must have been seen face to face at least once in the previous 12 months in the surgery in order to claim a Medicare rebate for this service. This rule excludes patients with confirmed COVID- 19.
HOME VISITS
Home visits are available and made at the discretion of the individual doctor. These appointments will incur a fee. Most of the doctors at Wakefield Gardens Surgery care for residents in aged care facilities in the local area.
DUTY DOCTOR / WALK-INS
Wakefield Gardens Surgery and The Surgery in Manuka Terrace does not offer ” walk in appointments”. We do offer Duty Doctor appointments. These may not be with your usual doctor but with the doctor best running to time.
RESULTS, PRESCRIPTIONS AND REFERRALS
We recommend you make an appointment to discuss your results. Reception staff are unable to access and convey results.
Requests for results will be referred to our practice nurses who can convey results and arrange follow up if required. Results may be given by SMS with prior consent; your Doctor will advise you of any urgent results and may ask a receptionist to contact you to organise a follow up appointment.
It is our preference that an appointment be made for repeat prescriptions and referrals. Where this is not possible, you can order these online without an appointment via HotDoc. Please allow up to 5 working days for your request to be completed.
All requests for the completion of paperwork will require an appointment with the doctor.
Results cannot be given to relatives without prearranged permission. This includes patients aged 14 years and over.
RECALLS AND REMINDERS
The practice operates on a recall system for important results and follow up examinations. Patients are automatically included in this system unless they tell us otherwise.
Please let the receptionists or your doctor know if you do not want to be contacted with recalls and reminders.
