Are Your Children’s Vaccinations Up to Date?

Vaccinations are one of the simplest and most effective ways to protect your child’s health, and the health of the wider community. But between school, work, and life’s many mov

ing parts, it’s easy for immunisations to slip off the radar. Whether your child is starting childcare, school, or entering their teen years, staying on top of the National Immunisation Program is key.

Why Vaccinations Matter

Vaccines help protect children from serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses such as measles, whooping cough, meningococcal disease, and more. They also help reduce the spread of these diseases to vulnerable members of the community, such as newborns, the elderly, and immunocompromised.

What’s Included in the Schedule?

The Australian Government provides a free, routine immunisation schedule from birth through to adolescence. This includes vaccines at:

  • 6 weeks, 4 months & 6 months

  • 12 & 18 months

  • 4 years

  • Year 7 & Year 10 (through school-based programs)

It’s also worth checking if your child is eligible for catch-up vaccines if they’ve missed any doses or started school in Australia after living overseas.

How to Check Your Child’s Vaccination Record

You can access your child’s immunisation history through Medicare via the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). If you’re unsure or can’t find their full records, your GP can help you check and update anything that’s missing.

Travel, Medical Conditions & Special Circumstances

If you’re planning overseas travel or your child has a chronic health condition, they may need additional vaccinations or adjustments to the schedule. Your doctor can guide you through what’s needed and when.

Keep Your Child’s Health on Track

If you’re unsure whether your child is up to date with their immunisations, we’re here to help. Our GPs can check their records, advise on the current schedule, and provide any catch-up doses needed.
